$12 million fine for fishing in Cocos island

Paying $12 million could be the punishment for the owner of the Panamanian licensed TIUNA, for the environmental damaged caused while fishing illegally in the protected waters of Cocos island, where the boat was detained on January 29th 2008.

Patrol Boat intimidated by fishermen on Cocos island

Just when we were thinking it was becoming safe for sharks to be in Australian waters, the Queensland government in an incredible display of ecological insensitivity has proposed a shark fin fishery in the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area and in marine parks in Queensland waters.
